Hotel Innovation

Proposed Idea: Biometric Security Door Lock in The Royal Mandaya Hotel

Objective: To promote better security and easy access to the customer.   
  
Problem
Located right at the pulse of Davao City, the Royal Mandaya Hotel is an ideal place to stay, offering primary access to business, commercial and recreational centers. A mere 30-minute drive to the Davao International Airport, the hotel is located within walking distance and easy reach to the city's business and government centers, recreation and leisure destinations.
The Royal Mandaya Hotel is one of the prominent hotels here in Davao City along with The Marco Polo Hotel, Apo View Hotel, Grand Menseng Hotel and many to mention.  It offers a good accommodation to all its customers. The rooms are fine. They are very clean and neat. The customer service is also satisfying.
With all these traits of the Royal Mandaya Hotel, it is very hard to find a flaw on their service. The Royal Mandaya Hotel is an establishment that is very up to date. There is nothing you can ask for more if you check in here.
I went there to perform my observation, I only stayed at the main hall, cause I cannot got further since I have no plans on checking in there. But, I personally experienced their accommodation cause we checked in there last during the wedding of my brother. And if I were asked to innovate anything there, I suggest that they should upgrade their security. The security is fine, but what I mean is get them more secure. They are using a normal door, with a normal security lock which is a door lock that can be unlocked with a key, of course.
But, in terms of being a careful, you’ll consider that thing around you is no one to be trusted. Maybe that room boy is a psychotic person, who’s waiting to have a duplicate of your key and maul you inside your room.
Or maybe you just lost your key, and asked for a new one, and then you lost it again. There are things that would bother you when you have a normal door lock.

Solution
I have thought of something that would upgrade and innovate their security feature. It will be a Biometric Security Door Lock to every room of the hotel. Keys can be easily get stolen from you. Keys are probably the easiest thing to lose of all time. Either it was dropped from your pocket or you misplaced it.
So, to eliminate of this problem, we have to eliminate the keys. That is the one of the purpose solution. To have a keyless check in.
How is going to work? The customer will have to fill in the data on the computer. Yes, checking in now is not going to be on the logbook, but on the computer. The customer will have to type down his/her name, address, etc. for security reason. Once everything is done. The customer will have to stand in front of the camera for his photo and after that he’ll place his or her thumb on the fingerprint reader.
After that, the customer can now proceed to his room. In order for to open the door, he’ll simply place his thumb on the fingerprint reader. Once the reader finished reading and has recognized the customer, the door will now open. If there are any intruders who’ll try sneak in your room, they will have a bad time, and it will be impossible for them to sneak in.

The door will only have a knob/handle. The fingerprint reader is located at the wall.


Another idea came into my mind is an online booking application on your mobile phones. As what I have mentioned The Royal Mandaya Hotel is one of the most prominent hotels here in Davao. With that fact, there is no doubt that a lot of customer are wanting to experience checking in this hotel.
            And because of that, there is a big chance that a lot of people will be disappointed if they knew that the room they want was already taken, especially on the Class A rooms. Yes, you can do a reservation. You just have to phone them and tell them you want a reservation to which room you want.
            But we are in the age of technology. An age where you can do almost anything and everything without a hassle. We have smartphone in this era which is capable of doing almost all of the things that the computer does within the palm of your hands.
            With these smartphones on our hand, we don’t have to pick up the phone and dial them to request for a reservation anymore.
            An application that is capable of making reservations on Mandaya Hotel is what I am talking about.
            So, how does idea goes? First, the application should be installed on the phone. After that, when you open the app, you will be asked to register to use the app. When you register, it will require you to fill up the form that is shown. The requires you to write your Full Name, Address, Date of Birth, Contact Number, etc. Then he/she can write his/her desired username and password. The user can now proceed to reservations. The user just have to simply tap “Make a Reservation”, then the user will be redirected to the page where he/she can choose the desired room.
            The user can choose what kind of room he/she is going to take, whether it is a common room, Superior, Deluxe, Premiere, Royal Suite, Mandaya Suite, or Presidetial Suite. The user will also have to enter the date of his arrival. The user can also set how many days he/she will be staying in the hotel. Then, the user can also write a request on the note, he/she can write anything there. Whether he/she wants to have a meal upon his arrival. Any request written on the note will be free of charge. It is a privilege that the application user gets. The total payment will also be shown at the screen.
            Addition, there will be a status check when making the reservation. Whenever the user makes a reservation, it will be shown its status if it is available or not.
            After all has been set up by the user, the user can now tap the “Finish” button. After that, the user will receive a message. The message is a copy of the user’s reservation. It has a list of what the user chose, and what the user wrote on the note. Along with it is a verification code. That verification code will be used on the day of the user’s arrival at the hotel.
The user will head to the receptionist to claim his/her reservation. Then when the receptionist finds the user’s reservation, the user will be asked for the verification code. Once the verification code is entered, then the user can now enjoy his/her stay at the hotel.
Another privilege of the user is that, they can do things now and pay later. The user can at the hotel’s restaurant without paying after they eat. The user will just simply have to log in the account he made on the mobile app on the log computer at the restaurant. Then, he can order anything. The bill will added to the total amount on the application. With that, the user can pay all the expenses in the end at once.
The user will receive a message on his/her last day reminding that it is the day of departure, then it will have the total amount that the user will pay.
