Hello! I am Marijune M. Alejo, a 4th
year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or a BSIT Student. Well,
actually I’m a 3rd year BSIT Student having my 4th year
of existence here in the University of Southeastern Philippines or also known
as USEP. Now, I am making this reflection for our subject, Field Trip and
Seminar or FTS, where we are tasked by our facilitator, Mr. Randy S. Gamboa to
answer the question: “What's your preferred FTS model why? 1000
words” which is due on July 4, 2015. Well, before I would answer that,
I will share to you what I have known about Field Trip and Seminar so far. Well,
Field Trip and Seminar is on our prospectus, and I thought of it before that, I
won’t enroll in this subject to save money and because I thought that it is an
optional subject. But, I found out that it is a requirement for us to enroll in
this course subject which is the Field Trip and Seminar to graduate. That’s
what our seniors have told us.
I just got enrolled in this subject
this semester because, I just recently became a 3rd yr. standing
student, which is the requirement to enroll in this subject. At first, I had a
dilemma whether to enroll this subject or not. It took me a long period of time
thinking about it. But last school year, our seniors had a Field Trip and
Seminar. They shared with us their experience. They told us that we will be
given the opportunity to choose from different models of the field trip. They
told us how fun it is even if it is a journey. They told us that right after
you will land the airport, you will immediately go to the first company on your
list, giving you no time for preparation. Then after that, you will proceed to
next company, then to next, and next. It is a continuous visit from one company
to another. Then, you will go to your hotel to sleep, and wake up so early in
the morning and start your day by visiting another company, then rest of the
day will be the same as yesterday.
So, back to the question. We were
tasked to answer this question given by our subject facilitator, Mr. Randy S.
Gamboa: “What's your preferred FTS model
why? 1000 words”. Our Field Trip and Seminar President, Mr. Rhon Luiz Ogaya
Sualog Castillo Guarino oriented us in our 1st or 2nd
meeting about the different kinds of model. There are three kinds of model,
Model A, Model B, Model C. And below are the list.
Model A = 1 Major Fieldtrip
(outside Mindanao) + 1 minor fieldtrip (Mindanao) + 1 Seminar (National) +
2hrs. Interpersonal skills
Model B = 1 Major Fieldtrip
(outside Mindanao) + 2 minor fieldtrip (Mindanao) + 2 Seminars (8hrs)
(Mindanao) + 2hrs. Interpersonal Skills
Model C = 3 Minor Fieldtrips
(Mindanao) + 4 seminars (16hrs) (Mindanao) + 2hrs. Interpersonal skills
Our president gave us a parent’s
consent letter with all details about the models written on the paper. And it
had a slip at the bottom where you will write the FTS Model of your choice, and
it should be signed by the parent and must be returned to our president. Me and
two of my friends, Christian Jan D. Refuerzo and Rondie B. Labra, decided to
choose Model C, since it was said in the meeting that the Model C would cost
cheaper than Model A and Model B. So, we returned our slips to our president.
Why is it that Model C would cost less than Model A? As you can see. Model C is
going to be held in Mindanao only, so there will be no need of plane tickets. It
is the plane tickets and the accommodations makes the Model A so damn
expensive. After that, our president called for a meeting regarding our choice.
It was revealed that only few students chose Model C and Model B, and majority
of the class chose Model A. Since it is not preferable to have a separate Field
Trips, the students should be in uniform. So, it came to the point where those
students who chose Models B and C to choose whether to shift to Model A or drop
the course subject. Left with no choice, we shifted from Model C to Model A. Of
course, we told our parents about this. Well, it was not a bad thing that we
shifted to Model A, because it would be a perk for those students who haven’t
been on a plane yet. They will finally feel how it’s like to be on a plane. Me,
I’ve been on a plane before when we went to Las Piñas. It will be my third time
boarding on a plane.
Another
that makes Model A worth-choosing is the Y4IT event. Now, what is Y4IT?
According to Y4IT’s website:
“Established in 2003,
the Youth Congress on Information Technology (formerly known as the Philippine
Youth Congress on Information Technology)—commonly known as Y4iT—is an annual
information technology event in the Philippines, organized by the UP System
Information Technology Foundation (UPSITF). Aimed primarily at college
students, professionals, educators, IT experts and enthusiasts,Y4iT is an
enabling event for today’s youth and aspires to recognize young Filipinos as
key drivers in the dynamic IT industry. Since its launching, Y4iT has gone on
to be at the forefront of information technology gathering events in the
Philippines. Various relevant and exciting IT topics are presented and
discussed. The event is co-organized by the Y4iT Volunteer Corps (YVC).” –y4it.org
Now,
what makes it worth-choosing? Well, it because of the event. It have thousands
of IT Students to participate. A lot of IT-related activities will be held. We
are also tasked to participate in its idea making contest.
I am
really excited for our Field Trip and Seminar. I cannot wait. I hope that it
will be a safe trip for us.
